We believe it and therefore we see it

On this microsite, we – OOAK Architects – invite you to get to know Bear: a project that will house our family as well as tell the story of the union between two distinct cultures and ways of life.

Bear by ooak render view

Bear is our family home and a case study project. We discuss and explore how to make the most sustainable choices possible from the very beginning. With the story of Bear, we invite our friends, fellow architects and developers to be inspired to imagine, study, and invent new ways of environmental, social, and economic sustainability for design and construction and ultimately to experiencing a happier way of life.

The buildings of tomorrow are already here.

Bear conveys the message of conserving and reusing buildings. It presents a conscientious approach to architecture through prudent resource consumption, reduced waste, and energy savings from avoiding demolition and reconstruction.

Mostly constructed from solid wood

We reinforce the existing structure of the building to accommodate a two and a half story wooden extension. Constructed mostly from solid wood, Bear will be the first multi-family building of its kind in Greece! It shatters myths about the safety and durability of wooden constructions while  inspiring fellow architects to learn from its example.

The social nature of happy living

Whilst Bear offers single-family living qualities, it's a home built for many. We – Maria, Johan, and our children Ismini and Kimon – will live here with other people who share a passion for our synergetic way of life, which combines Greek and Swedish qualities: emotional yet organized, creative and responsible, natural and urban. We want to share our home for two reasons: we support the social nature of happy living, and we also want to contribute to and be part of the sustainable solution to urban housing problems.
